The collaboration between Hamilton and Hollywood began “underwater” in 1951, when actors playing underwater heroes wore Hamilton watches in the Oscar-nominated film The Frogmen. Since then, Hamilton has worked steadily with directors and art directors to offer timepieces that best represent each character’s image. To date, the participation in the films 2001: A Space Odyssey and Interstellar are confirmed as real milestones in the career of the brand in Hollywood.
Hamilton has decided to celebrate these two legendary films by creating an extraordinarily bold timepiece: the ODC X-03. Inspired by Interstellar’s Endurance spacecraft, the ODC X-03 model is the result of a winning collaboration born at the 2014 Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards (BTCA), an event that the brand regularly organizes in Los Angeles and China. The timepiece born of this meeting, designed by Nathan Crowley, Interstellar production designer and three-time Oscar nominee, takes space timepieces into a new dimension. The elegant ODC X-03 – Swiss-made – is an avant-garde masterpiece, an expression of traditional Hamilton quality, craftsmanship, reliability and stunning aesthetics.
The ODC X-03 is the third model in a trilogy of watches born with the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Stanley Kubrick. Launched in 2006 and 2009 respectively, the X-01 and X-02 models also drew inspiration from what is arguably considered to be one of the most extraordinary films of all time. Just like its predecessor, the X-02, the ODC X-03 is also powered by three different movements (one automatic movement and two identical quartz movements) encased in a sturdy 49mm hexagonal titanium case for 52 mm, with galactic black PVD coating.
This cutting-edge timepiece is born from the union of design and creativity with technology and watchmaking mastery. Thanks to a new and surprising design, the dial offers three secondary counters that orbit around Jupiter: an elegant homage to the famous Kubrick film. The futuristic dial is the result of over 120 processing steps with the use of innovative technologies such as three-dimensional printing and laser engraving.
Every detail has been carefully crafted to fit the watch’s spatial design: from the galvanic black rings around the counters to the seals and rivets inspired by the Endurance spacecraft. The crowns are perfectly integrated with the case, while the back bears the elegant engraving of the main data relating to the great planet Jupiter, including its size and temperature. To complete this pioneering timepiece, a fabric strap with leather lining ensures maximum comfort even for the most fearless astronauts.
